I don’t think the people who used this web wallet had any seed to begin with. The whole point of this seemed to be to be able to use Grin with the comfort of a normal username/password rather than actually owning your private keys.
Because the grin wallet doesn’t allow you to use multiple wallets with the API they would’ve had to do some serious modifications to the wallet and api in order to get it to work that way. My guess is that he is managing majority of the balances in either accounts in a single wallet or in a database. So You don’t actually have your own wallet that you can move around.
It’s much easier to modify grin-wallet to support multiple wallets than to make the kind of changes to support maintaining balances using a single wallet.
But let’s be honest with ourselves. This is a web wallet developed and maintained by a nym. There’s no way they’re going to let users control the keys. 11 years of bitcoin web wallets would suggest that the plan has always been to run away with everyone’s money. It’s not a matter of ‘if’, but ‘when’. I hope this turns out to be the one exception, but I’m not optimistic.
Still no answer from mygrin I emailed 3 times… nothing… stay away
GRIN balance restored, finally… after months.
However, I cannot seem to send/transfer GRIN anywhere.
I have same issue with the transfer
When can I transfer out my grin? It’s nearly a year. Can you give us a description of the current progress?
Can you all extract grin coin normally through mygrin.com?
No, there is still the same problem
I think we all have the same issue…
Status update, please? Some of us what to either:
-
Transfer our GRIN to another wallet…or…
-
dump this illegal Anonymous Crime Coin for good
How will you dump them if you can’t withdraw them from the web wallet?
Very true, indeed!
Honestly, I’m beginning to think we are completely f#cked.
Very likely. Web wallets have been known big red flags for quite a few years now. Stay away from them.
Author is still active on the site from time to time, I think that this is unfortunately a scam. Sad to see how these things go. Ruins the image of legitimate web wallets.
There are two kinds of crypto users:
- those who store their own private keys
- those who wish they had
A pity that he was not heavily moderated by the core team or something. easy to say with the hindsight.
I wish strong and opinionated moderation measures will be taken on this forum moving forward but it seems the consil prefers theoretical and irresponsible reasoning on this topic rather than taking decisions to protect the most newbies of our community members, whose money can be sadly stolen as we can witness it here
What did you wish to see moderated exactly? Prohibit web wallets? Prohibit OTC? Only allow OTC with “trusted” community members? Nanny state brings destruction and misery. Making mistakes is the most efficient way to learn anyway.
