[POTENTIAL SCAM?] Grin Web Wallet - Confidentially Safely Conveniently

I believe that web wallets are a key piece when it comes to further adoption of currencies, especially something like this. Though I also believe that it may be to early for more adoption. I think that Grin should be further developed and matured before more adoption takes place. Reason being it isn’t easy to completely understand how the wallets work since a fair amount of people aren’t comfortable with the command line. If Grin is able to push out a GUI wallet for Windows, Mac, and other distributions of linux along with solving issues with transactions I think more people will come around to the currency and only then will we see it grow more to its full potential. But till then I would definitely stay away from services like these that aren’t already trusted within the community and even then. People can always change. Always keep your guard up and be suspicious.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with browser wallets (e.g. MetaMask). Web wallets, however, imply that the wallet is on the web, i.e. that it doesn’t reside on your device. I certainly don’t think that is key for adoption.

I do agree with what you are saying. I think that more services should allow you access to the keys of your wallet and allow you to remove your wallet from their service if you so choose. Unfortunately you have to trust that service. When I say that it is a key for adoption I mean so for the ease in which you are able to create a wallet. That is why a lot of people use services like Coinbase (That and the ability to deposit USD and trade within the wallet) but they came on top by providing an easy alternative to having to sit there with your Bitcoin wallet as it syncs to the blockchain. The adoption is focused on people who don’t souly live around Crypto but for people who are willing to even put some money into it and use it in the future. They aren’t always going to remember their keys and if they write it down like you are supposed to they tend to lose it. I think it is more the ease of being able to create a wallet and use it which is something that web wallets provide.

Are you still using this web wallet?

Well I think it is safe to say that this was indeed a scam.

The Poster has stopped responding a while ago and as of November 13th has stopped coming back to the forum. The site is still up, so i’d advise against using the service for the time being unless proof is brought forward that users are able to withdrawal their Grin.

At the very least he chose a fitting username.

@lehnberg are we able to at least get a warning or remove the link to make sure people don’t have anymore issues with this? Cause I’m guessing some people aren’t gonna read 100+ posts to see that it’s a scam

inb4 chief_dementor returns from having been away due to a sudden serious illness and turns out to not be a scammer.

In other words, I don’t think it’s a good idea for the moderation to convict people of scamming based merely on a >99% probability. [WARNING: High scam risk] or something similar would be much better, I think.

Then we misunderstood him and hoped he would recover soon

It was a hypothetical scenario, but hopefully this isn’t a scam as believed so the people can get back what is currently lost

Has anyone figured out how to get your money out of the web wallet???

I cant move out any of my coin??? any info would be nice? Support only spoke to me one time by email then disappeared??? Now no one replies for weeks and weeks

It’s a scam. Hopefully they didn’t steal too much from you. In the future, avoid storing crypto in web wallets.

Well I just cant find a way to get it from the pool to me… I have 11 in that wallet… Thanks for your input!!!

Which pool, and which wallet?

Ive been on grin2miners
and I use grinn ++ 0.6.4

but they cant seem to send to me. so I started to use the web wallet … it sent me my grin the first 5 or so… then it stopped and I am stuck with 11 in that wallet and I have another 6 or so on line in the pool. they are waiting for me to tell them where to send it???

Do they send via HTTP? You might have to forward port 3415, and withdraw using your public IP (whatismyip.com). Use the address: http://<PUBLIC_IP>:3415
