Grin made it to 4002 SATs on Gate.io today. Someone dumped over $2M worth of Grin at market.
Damn! I knew I should have left up that retardedly low buy order…
Probably just contagion from general financial asset market panic over oil price war + corona virus mainly… prob. best not to panic and sell thereby crystallizing losses if investing for the long term…
Can’t shake these diamond hands.
yay, a vision of oasis in the desert
Remember what CME senior Leo Melamed had said during the last bull run? We will tame Bitcoin? A month after the implementation of future derivatives, Bitcoin tanked. I’m pretty damn sure it was that moment which gave wall street a full fledged control of the price. Bitcoin’s motive was literally created to be our own bank and it is sad to see that we are on a losing end of the stick… (at least for now).
Covid 19 is an attack against bitcoin. They timed this perfectly, crash it before the halving, bring the network security into question in terms of miner incentive. Good thing there’s a new coin in town, without halvings.
Good call sir!
Just my 2 Grin
At least we know the bottom is somewhere between here and 0.
LOL grin theme song IMO. Domi killing it, & Louis wears the mask.
“FBI will never know…use tor…dark web, so hot, silk road”… etc
Plus this insane techno jazz music kinda fits the whole grin brand really well ![]()
To be clear, i’m not actually suggesting this be the theme song. I’m just bored and I wanted someone to see the cool relevant song I found on youtube.
Is this what public access cable TV is like in Europe?
He seems to overemphasize the amount of heat lost through the head.
I’ve been watching old Melvins interviews and performances.

Your video reminded me of Tornado Rider.
I do like them - good call! My kind of mates.
Hey I’m bored too. I’m writing a sci-fi book, or trying to anyway. It’s a futuristic, psychonautical, taoist-and-hermetic-alchemy-action-adventure. It has crypto in it. The cryptocurrency Cheshire, which appears in the book, has a real-world counterpart - I bet you can guess what that is. This will identify me someday. But I thought you would enjoy that. So, Grin is making it’s way into literature, sort of. Literature of the kind that might be written by a guy who might like Tornado Rider.
Nice, how far along on the book are you, is crypto a part of the plot, or more of an accessory that just sort of is there in the background?
I am 7/12 of the way through the first draft. I have outlined 12 sections, and am writing the seventh section at this time. I have never written anything before, so I did some research online on how to write. Hemingway said, “The first draft of anything is shit.” So that has been my rallying cry. I plan on doing 4 redrafts.
The book is about decentralization in its political, economic and spiritual aspects. My reason for writing the book was to explore these themes in a non-boring manner. I figured a didactic explanation would be a snoozer, so I decided to build this elaborate story around it to make the exploration more interesting. So, crypto is integral. It even plays a plot role. There are two currencies, Galaxy (a more governmental one) and Cheshire (our hero’s favorite!). It’s basically a spiritual, buddy, road-trip tale. Our hero’s buddy has just been rolled out of a moving vehicle after being beaten up by the Illuminati who took the healing helmet device he had made. Knowing he couldn’t use Galaxy as it would be tracked. He sends a street kid to his buddy with some ‘homework’ scrawled on paper. Since it’s an elliptic curve, and the kid’s like eight years old, the hero knows it’s a message from his buddy who’s in trouble. He sends the kid back, paid for his courier services, with an ‘answer’ to the homework problem, which is a Cheshire transaction key really, so his friend can get money and get out of trouble without the government knowing. So, yes, crypto is more than window dressing in the book.
I write every night, 1000 words. I read once that Virgil wrote the Aeneid one line a day for decades. I don’t know if that’s true, but I believe it and think it’s cool. I used to pray every night. But I decided the Bible is fiction, and I decided to write some religious fiction I could actually believe in, myself. So that became my new prayer, to write every night, maybe a new tale for humanity, other than the twisted one, the Bible, which has only brought us to this miserable place and dumped us here. Originally, the book was about consciousness and quantum mechanics after I had some weird virus last year. I spent a few weeks reading Alfred North Whitehead, Bohmian Quantum Mechanics and a bunch of old alchemy manuscripts from the East and the West in a hallucinogenic, febrile state. It all sort of branched out from that. Outlining and sketching characters and places took a few months. Writing so far has been two or three months.
Funny, Grammarly and Google AI says my tone is ‘Sad’ but I don’t feel sad. I feel pretty happy.
I like the story of your book so far. Keep it up. Writing a whole book seems like such a huge challenge. I like your plan, just hack it out little by little until it’s fuckin’ done. I’m recording an album right now, same plan man. same plan.
Funny how the bitcoin story itself is like a great sci-fi novel. We haven’t seen the end yet because Hal Finny has not been unfrozen and resurrected with ~1X% of the worlds money supply.
Edit: also speaking of religious fiction, if you re arrange Satoshi Nakamoto, you can get I AM SATAN or I AM A SATANIST plus some extra letters. I think revalations mentions the beast coming from the sea, and i think the translation of satoshi nakamoto could include a reference of being of the sea. Revelations itself mentions the beast returning and appearing as a financial savior. etc.
Tl;Dr: So finney comes back in 1000 years and moves the coins in the genesis block just to fuck with everyone, or on accident by trying old passwords. Turns out he was satan (but not like he knew he was, more like in the movie ‘the omen,’ Damien didn’t know what was up really, he was just a kid). Everyone on earth dies. The end.
edit: That book would be cool from Finney’s perspective, and the love story could be about reviving his frozen wife and kids, in a decaying socialist…no… full on robot totalitarian shithole world. and uhh…grin’s in there…somewhere, it saves the day, so grin would be the real protagonist in this hypothetical book. Oooo best part, half the book is already written, because it happened already.
I’m trying to understand elliptic curve cryptography. I get that it’s like the number of hops around the curve is what gives it randomness, but what i don’t understand what these ‘hops’ translate into bitcoin terms. How does the user who wants to keep his secret, input the number of desired hops around bitcoin’s eliptic curve? I’m trying to learn from youtube, so i’m using terms from the videos, I hope that question makes sense. Thanks.
The things that are added or subtracted in elliptic curve cryptography are points of a given elliptic curve, unlike classic arithmetic where people just add and subtract numbers.
grin uses the same elliptic curve as bitcoin, but some other coins use other elliptic curves.
so for any two points H and G of the elliptic curve, we can define H+G, H-G, or even H+H-G = 2H-G, and so on and so forth, and the resulting thing is also a curve point.
it is believed that for any huge number n that you secretly chose, and you calculate nH = H +…+ H (n times) and give to people the result of that calculation ,which is a curve point, let’s call it A, A=nH, then with the knowledge of H and A, people will be totally unable to guess the number n you used.
n is the secret key and what is described above is the assumption that makes bitcoin and grin secure, even against (non quantum) supercomputers
What you call hopping is multiplying a secret key with the curve generator G to get a public key. This way you can hop from 0*G to 1*G to 2*G …
Except that private keys are big 256-bit numbers that no-one should be able to guess. They’re normally chosen by hashing some master seed with some additional information called a derivation path. The master seed corresponds to the 12 or 24 word list that you need to write down as a wallet backup. The master seed was randomly picked when you initialized your wallet, using entropy that your computer collects, such as disk latencies, mouse movements, etcetera.
Thank you very much Kurt and tromp.
