Grinminer.net is online and ready to host

What Grinminer.net is

Since I was diagnosed with MS in 2010, my dream has been to have a robust, redundant, and enterprise-grade homelab that I can run sites and services on for the public. Thanks to getting involved in the Grin community in October 2023, it gave me motivation to make this dream come true. I have spent 6 months rebuilding my lab and with a few generous donations acquired everything I need to start my site.

What I’m offering

A free/paid VPS service in the US for hosting your own Grin nodes and stratum pools to solo mine. The terms are outlined in the application form @ Grinminer.net and the fees are nominal and to prevent resource wastage. With the current Grin price the flat fees are 10ツ and the monthly for backups and snapshots is 15ツ.

I also offer public nodes and APIs for those who just want to sync wallets, have more node peers, or just test some things out with the APIs. There are several open stratum pools for troubleshooting pool issues as an option to test. Also there are mainnet and testnet explorers on the site thanks to grincoin.org.

On the project Github I have published some Ansible playbooks that are Grin related like one to install a node, wallet, and set up mwixnet automatically. I will add these to the site soon.

My long term goals

To continue hosting the Grin testnet block producing node for as long as I can with maximum uptime. I also want to have my nodes be default DNS seeders once I’ve proven they’re fast and stable.

I don’t intend to compete with grincoin.org or https://grinnode.live by providing similar services, I see myself as a backup to them and complimentary too since I may provide less latency for those in the US. Both projects have been very helpful to me in getting everything running smoothly and I’d like to thank the community members who helped me test some things or let me know about testnet outages as I was busy focusing on the build.

Closing

Please take a look at the site and feedback is welcome. If you want your own private node with either your own custom URL or port number go ahead and apply. I am also willing to host a VPS for other purposes, there is a comment field to justify the needing of a VPS and how it’s related to Grin.
