Grin Logos for Community Consideration

Not particularly… hehe

Someone had an idea around using the same style of letters as the M and W in the eyes to spell out GRIN, which I think could work really well. Just waiting for some talented person to do that!

I like the 1st icon (black one), the optimized color is more smooth than the original yellow icon.

I’m not sure there has to be a logo with the Grin name next to it. Why not just leave the symbol as it is without “official” text?

Nevertheless, when I get home next week I’ll try to create a few sketches with decent looking text (I’m thinking of going no caps at all).

The cheeky smiley face variations are my favorites by far, except for the infinity snake one on the official twitter, that one looks too grotesque.

I had an idea for the smile someone might want to experiment with: draw the smile to look like a zip, as if to say ‘lips are sealed’. Grin ain’t no snitch.

Shouldn’t that be “tongue is tied” ?

Well, yes, tongue tying is a better metaphor for how it works because its actually public gibberish information not secret information but I can’t visualize a simple way to fit it to the shape of a grin, and the meaning of zipped lips would be more immediately apparent to most people.

Another idea: Each eye as the currency symbol g. Combined with a grinning zipped mouth, even a kid could guess from the logo that it was a private currency. As a bonus “gg” being short for “good game” has the right connotations of winning-skill-respect.

Like this tag in fortnite:

All up the logo would be evoking this concept cluster of happiness-money-secrecy-skill, a good representation of Grin.

I agree this is the best one, definitely unique and easily recognizable +1

You just made me realise Grin has it’s very own built in emoji! :zipper_mouth_face:

Hey guys, I’m excited to submit my logo for consideration. I went with a simple but flexible logo that can be easily expanded to a branded system. I’ve really enjoyed watching peoples submissions and would love some feedback on my own .

As stated by @lehnberg, I really like the idea of not having any “official” logo but maybe using the currency symbol of Grin as a logo.

Here’s my submission.

The Patronus.

There is a subtle white aura around the currency symbol which embodies the HP roots of Grin and the MW protocol.

As suggested by @0xb100d, I used the courrier font which is a font almost every computers in the world have.

it might look even better with a wider aura, or something whispier/smokier. I love that currency symbol though, I think it’s perfect.

Here’s perhaps the simplest way to handle this. Of course it could be tweaked but it gets the idea across. A similar approach (of concave lettering) could be drawn by hand resulting in something more ornate. Often though, with logos and letters, simpler is better.

Let me know you think. We can build on this.

This is well done. Minimal and clean. Very nice. It might look great wrapped around the smiley as well.

In response to this reddit thread, 'I don’t understand grin’s logo’ I created a helpful infographic:

feel free to reference it whenever the need arises.

We need a simplistic professional currency logo like this! All that extra smiley logo people wont take serious on the grander scale of thing.

No one took that silly digital cash “Bitcoin” seriously, until they did—it had nothing to do with the logo. Look at all the things in the world that have “professional” and “official” confidence-inducing branding, but is in actuality just garbage in fine packaging. Since the dawn of the internet, only the cypherpunks have worried themselves with securing a free and open internet for all. Everyone else saw it as the perfect opportunity to exploit. Satoshi Nakamoto created a brilliant piece of art to address that. Grin builds on that legacy. People are learning to discern between a flashy facade and something that is built out of principals. You don’t have to trust a “brand”—read the code. The smiley represents all those who patiently watched, waited, thought, and acted. When they saw what they had built and that nothing could prevail against it, all they could do was GRIN! It represents a triumph. Its cypherpunk roots are something to be proud of.

And that’s the difference between decent projects that prosper and extraordinary projects that don’t. People(non developers) aren’t using bitcoin, ethereum, eos, xrp, monero etc because they understand the code. I can almost guaranteed you its because of the function and professionalism. The fact that you mention “garbage in a fine package” proofs the importance of branding, it’s best to present gold in gold not bronze.

Well I wasn’t going to jump into this discussion but I felt compelled to since I’m apparently not the only one with reservations about the current logo.

[Recommendation of hiring a professional graphic designer has been removed]

Edit: I think we may need to start off with figuring out what the overarching themes are for GRIN. Is the project about Harry Potter? Is it about smiling faces? Is it about privacy? Is it about cuckoo cycle? Is it about money?

Also as a front-end dev I feel that I should emphasize that any given logo idea should have a minimal version available that can fit in a 64x64 or 128x128 square. Many of the ideas in there have minute detail that would be lost when reducing the image size. I will mention this in the thread.
