We need exchanges

I believe that we need more exchanges and that we should actively take care of them. The community has already suggested a few:

Exchanges:

  • Mexc (30k listing fee)

  • Safetrade

  • CoinEx (beam is listed)

  • whiteBit

-…

Did I forget one?

How can we make progress here?

  • mexc ,coinex already delisted Grin. I dont think they will list again without paying money which is against Grin ethos.
  • Whitebit listed MWC coin but it uses ‘‘https’’ tx method and wants 600 confirmations, also restricts US/EU users as well.

I think that Grin was to be listed on big exchanges but the ship is sailed already.
Wallet and tx problems created a vicious cycle for low adoption > less exchanges, pools > less userbase > less security + credibility, reputation > less developers are involved >less development.

Accepting the reason, why it happened and not going this route as community.

We need exchanges

We could go about another way around this. If there’s enough of products and services that can be purchased directly using Grin, there will be no need for exchange, because Grin is the final coin to be used. Are there efforts to reach this?

This is off topic, but maybe something like Monezon (buy anything on Amazon with xmr and some other coins I think) https://monezon.com/

And in terms of services, there has been discussion about using Grin to pay for Nostr relays, or even to use Grin for “zapping” content on Nostr (you can find several threads on this).

I pointed this out last year. The only way Grin can get adoption is through improving the UX of basic functionality.

improving the UX of basic functionality

Cryptography involves big numbers, ranging from 256-bits to 2048-bits in length. There’s something that could help users to check if they have mistyped and where they have mistyped. I even started working on something to demonstrate that (GitHub repository), but not even an image to demonstrate was it is about was attached to the README.md file. If the digits of the large number were laid in a grid, there could be rows and columns of check digits for hinting the user if all is properly correctly typed.

It’s a simple project. Do you think it could be valuable in improving the user experience?

I’m not sure if that’s right for Grin or not. Mainly because since transactions are interactive, it kind of already saves you from sending to a bogus address.

So the main issue would be sending to the wrong person. In which case, I think an old fashioned contact list would be best? I’ll let others chime in on that

Grin adresses contain checksum bytes:

Slatepacks also contai checksum bytes, so no additional work is needed there.

Last year? I shout out this issue at least FIVE years ago!

Well, yes. It was actually pointed out in 2019 by the people that launched Grin too. It’s part of the design xD

Why not host a digital grin exchange market on the grin.mw forum? P2P trades only. It’s not that complicated. Then we can all sleep well knowing it will still be there tomorrow.

Marketmakers don’t want this because they don’t want cheap grin.
