### 9. Slogan change to “no more funny money”
** lehnberg: @0xb100d propose that we change our slogan to “no more funny money”:*
> Just want to pop idea of a slogan change from the unofficial “better money” ( since it is/was a Chaum trademark) to “no more funny money” or some other alternative.
I personally don’t have much to comment, I don’t think “better money” was ‘official’. Before we go down the brainstorming hole on slogans, again - there’s no official motto of the project, and if you want to improve on copy on website etc - submit a pull request.
I wanted to open up the discussion re Grin’s slogan. I think the slogan needs more discussion so everyone is on the same page. As @lehnberg points out, there’s no official slogan at this point. So let’s discuss it more:
I’m not sure if I like running with "no more funny money”. Are we saying that other Cryptocurrencies are just funny money, or that fiat is funny money, or that everything else aside from Grin is funny money? To the outsider, Grin, already has a funny looking logo. So associating Grin with “funny money” might not be the best marketing strategy( it could backfire).
I prefer “Better money”. But as @0xb100d points out, it’s not original. It lacks any real punch as well.
However, I do like the ‘Better money’ narrative. Essentially the way I see Grin is a better version of “P2P electronic cash”. Verses Bitcoin Grin offers Better privacy(CT), Better performance( MW), Better predictability ( Constant block reward incentive) .
Some of the popular Bitcoin(BTC) narrative is that Bitcoin was not first made for day-to-day payments( atleast not small payments) and that it’s first and foremost an SoV that’s used as a settlement layer. “Bitcoin [is] more like a collectible or commodity.” - Satoshi
Here is a good tweet storm that illustrates this: https://twitter.com/danheld/status/1084848063947071488 (I found this because it was retweeted by Samson Mow)
Here is another example that illustrates how prominent Bitcoiners don’t think Bitcoin should be used as “cash” for small day-to-day transactions.
Pushing the ‘better money’ aka ‘better cash’ narrative means that Grin is not directly competing with Bitcoin, it’s competing with Bitcoin cash. Thus Grin is in a better position to gain approval from the Bitcoin(BTC) crowd( which is no doubt the same crowd that a lot of Grin supporters resonate most with). Bitcoin also has some incentive to support Grin as P2P cash since it disrupts Bitcoin cash and weakens their claim as the real Bitcoin. Out of all known projects in existence, Grin’s origin story(origin features) are closest to Bitcoin’s( eg Grassroots project/ no premine/ico/dev fee/ pseudonymous founder etc). So If any project gets a tick of approval from the Bitcoin crowd, it’s going to be Grin.
Although I’m saying we should associate Grin with “cash”, that’s not to say that Grin isn’t a store of value, it’s just not the best store of value. Bitcoin is. Grin is not a Bitcoin V2. But a better version of P2P electronic cash ( The core feature of cash is privacy)
I’m not proposing a new slogan here, i’m just giving everyone some ideas to think about and discuss further. I also made this:
