We will likely need technical support to assist them in listing GRIN.
I have, of course, made it clear that GRIN will not be paying anything to be listed.
@Ardocrat has volunteered to help, and if any other volunteers (I’m mainly talking about GRIN developers and contributors) would like to get involved, feel free to make yourselves known, and I will share the Telegram group link with you.
I won’t hide that I was almost 99% certain it was a scam, but after verification with an administrator from the official MEXC group and confirmation on Verify MEXC Official Channels, News and Publications, it turns out that the person is indeed legitimate.
Unfortunately most exchanges are only in it for the money. Only a select few actively try to contribute to good projects by listing them without a direct return of investment. It is surprising not more exchanges pro-actively list grin because they recognize its inherent potential and the inevitable increase in future demand for Grin (whether in 1 or 10 years).
I don’t think we should pay listing fees out of project funds as a matter of principle. If people wanted to crowdsource the listing fee, that’s a different story but I’m not sure many would donate though it’s worth a shot.
Personally I think the approach we should take is pointing out the facts that speak to Anynomous’ point about inherent potential. Mimblewimble is the second most discussed protocol on bitcointalk.org for example. It’s design was hypothesized first by Satoshi himself. Its community organically emerged out of the OG bitcoin circles via #bitcoinwizards IRC. I think pointing these things out is a better argument to make to exchanges.
If they don’t see the value inherent to that, then fuck 'em.
And to the first point, about crowdsourcing the fee, if that approach is taken then it should come with some guarantees. What if, for example, the 30k fee is paid but then the volume is low and in a year MEXC decides to delist? We’d have no recourse and just lose that money.
If folks do decide to crowdsource the fee, they should get confirmed in writing various stipulations such as specific pairs (GRIN/BTC, GRIN/USDT, GRIN/EUR etc) as well as exemption from volume based delisting, and probably others. These exchanges are shady af, they will do whatever they can to take our money and run.
Personally I am against any form of paid listing.
Grin is however a free project. Anyone can start a fundraising where people can pledge an amounts in USD or BTC, I would just not endorse it or participate in it. I very much doubt we could raise 30k in funding for any listing since many community members like myself are per definition against paid listings.
Also good to mention there might be more idealistic alternatives out there that do not require any listing fees at all. Personally I would favor exploring those options.
See this thread:
I completely agree with you and will most likely not participate. However, if some members still wish to proceed with a crowdfunding campaign, I can offer this site for the initiative. Of course, it will be necessary to choose a BTC address belonging to the community fund.
I totally agree that point, some exchanges are happy to list, then could be happy to de-list. We got delisted by many exchanges before. We’d better to think about other ways for adoption than exchange/trading.
Grin should be easy to use. Trezor, Ledger, QR code - everything should be simple and invisible to the user. Without this, there will be no adoption! 5 years have passed…
Oh shoot, I thought the listing fee was 30k Grin not $30k USD. That’s a bit much.
Okay I’m against that too. That’s a lot of money for something with so much uncertainty. Even if Grin were listed on MEXC, it doesn’t necessarily mean more adoption or greater trading volume.
Perhaps, it’s better to start with TradeOgre and try to get more trading and volume on the trading pairs there first as a PoC. I mainly use the Grin/BTC pair but there could always be more volume on the Grin/USDT pair.
Other than that, a place to use Grin that would encourage people to buy the currency. For example, decentralized poker using Grin or some marketplace.
