@grn Cool, I will try this one. I love that everyone can just print this, so fully decentralized and minimalistic in the spirit of Grin,

Cool. Let me know if you run into any issues. It could need more iterations. Ideally the black & white version gets printed on yellow cardboard. I used only reguar printer paper for prototyping so far, but that is not very stable. I haven’t made any markings for attachments yet, but ear loops like on corona masks are probably ok, because a single band can squeeze the mask too much. It is a good idea to reinforce any holes with a bit of clear tape and/or staples.

Tested @grn do it yourself Grin mask on 250 gram photo paper.

Costs 1.60 euro for 2 A4 250 grams photo papers plus color printing of 2 A4. Construction time, something like 20-30 minutes since the glue needs drying.
Experience so far.

  • 250 grams might be slightly too thick paper, which makes it harder to fold the paper. Otherwise the stiffness means the mask will stay good for long.
  • Best to use a scissor where possible, knife works less well with this thick paper
  • Mask looks good, visibility is somewhat low due to the round shape the distance to the eye gaps is a bit high, otherwise it feels comfortable. So from that perspective a more oval shape would result in better visibility, but would be less preserving of the Grin logo.

Overall a very nice first version of the Grin do it yourself mask. Note, I am in favor of not restricting ourselves to one mask over the other, lets try multiple and let everyone chose themselves.

@grn It’s nice to have alternatives like this.
The idea of making our own mask at home is also very nice. Thanks. I support this idea.
@Anynomous Thanks for your testing and feedback. You explained it quite well.

Update.
Grin Mask’s design is maturing. We continue to work on the mask with my cousin.
Next step will be;
We will try to make the nose part a little more natural.
We will revisit other details.

@minexpert Any update on the mask, or on that awesome Desktop art?

Yes. We have completed the design.
Firstly, I would like to present Ignotus Peverell.

Completed in mask. However, there is currently need time for this mask.
I believe Grin will be successful, but I think he needs a little more time to make himself heard. Because, when we think about it in detail, most of the cryptocurrencies that have been popular until this time either started with ideal(ethereum) or low inflation , either had a limited supply or distributed half of their supply in the first few years (monero). Due to this, faster purchases were made in these cryptocurrencies. However, due to Grin’s fair structure, both its supply is unlimited and its inflation is high. 2 factors together. These may require a longer time than others for the Grin to be valued.
Let’s just put it this way, it started with high inflation in Bitcoin, but the supply was predictable. Even if it was bought 1 bitcoin with very high inflation, every 1 bitcoin we buy has a rate of 1/21.000.000. But Grin doesn’t have this. The rate of each Grin taken is 1/∞ Because supply is unlimited.
So, i think, if supply is unlimited, the only solution is to lower inflation.

Why did I tell you this?
Because there’s a great idea out here. This idea is called Grin.
For these reasons now, it’s a great idea, even if it’s still undervalued! I believe this with all my heart.

I think, also it’s great at making the mask of this great idea. But both of them need time.
Just as people are not interested in Grin for these reasons right now or at least let’s say they’re waiting, they also may not be interested in his mask for these reasons.
Therefore, it may make more sense to realize this idea over time. Then this idea will be unlocked. I will do this but even if I don’t do this, someone else will run this idea. I am 100% sure of that.

I get what you mean. But in practice, Grin is also capped (due to people forgetting their wallet passwords etc.), the total amount of Grin will reach an equilibrium in maybe 50-100 years from now (a loss of 1-2% per year). The value of Grin is highly predictable, only the halvings are happening at a non fixed time interval, e.g. after 2 years, the supply/total_grin is halved in comparison to 1 year, next halving is at 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 years.
There is a nice post about this:

Like you I believe in this beautiful yellow project.
Maybe more time is needed, maybe the time is already here.
The way I see it, each day we can decide to move this project a step forward, or we just let things go their way. Either way, Grin is here to stay.
Grin is not a short lived FOMO Altcoin project which might moon today in its price with a market cap far exceeding Grin, and still many of these Altcoin projects might not even exist in 4 years from now.
For Grin this is totally different, Grin will stay around for the decades to come, so will most community members stick around. There is no real reason to wait, nor is their a necessity rush anything, since time is on our hand :timer_clock:

Having said that, a great wizard once said:

All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to use

Although Grin might be “infinite”, my time on earth is still capped . In the time given to me I will enjoy being part of this great project and this great community and I will try to move the project forward.
