I disagree! There is a whole area of study dedicated to signs and symbols:
I don’t see a need for a standardized way to abbreviate “grin” with one character. I dislike Tsu so I usually say “grin” and I haven’t had any issues yet, believe it or not.
I reviewed the chat logs and couldn’t find the part where Tsu was the selected choice. Could you point out where that discussion took place and ended more specifically?
Thanks for pointing that out @lehnberg.
I’ll rest my case on this. Katakana, or ツ, is what we have currently. I’m okay with it. Keep in mind, it will become acceptable to substitute ツ for =).
For final comparison we have the following:
Symbol | Substitutions | Strokes | Appearance | Implementation |
---|---|---|---|---|
ツ | =) | 3 | Meme-like | Unicode included; requires font support |
(= or G | 2 | Currency-like / similar to € | Unicode excluded; requires SVG | |
₲ | G | 2 | Currency-like / similar to $ or ฿ or ₿ | Unicode included; requires font support |
Evidence that it’s possible to have a custom designed currency symbol added to the Unicode standard.
I purpose the use of alternative standards to Unicode (e.g. SVG in some applications) to display a custom designed currency symbol until the symbol is included in the Unicode standard. For communication purposes, (= or G could be used in place of the symbol.
At this point my feedback my not matter, but just wanted to chime in.
As a speculator, and possible future miner, I think Grin represents a genius concept. In my humble option choosing the ideal symbol in a sea of symbols is critical. I liked your first set of choices, interestingly in Alchemy and esoteric philosophy the letter G is considered to be Devine, wise men say it holds the secrets to changing basic metal into Gold, it’s also the 7th letter in the Latin alphabet, I think number 7 in numerology unleashes tremendous power, both are elements recognizable across the globe by millions if not billions of people who speak different languages. Familiarity and creativity in a new brand is always good. Why I like the letter g, It’s written the letter G is benevolent, expansive and inherently a powerful letter. think google. Google changed their logo to single G. Ive read speculators will gravitate naturally to symbols like Ǥ if it aligns with the product. Perhaps familiarity is a good thing. I like the unique stroke or straight line crossing the letter Ǥ aligns well the genius of the blockchain innovation and potencial monetization value.
I think of all the great words and names to inventions created by visionaries that start with the letter G, for example, Grin, Great, Globe, Google, God, and Gold, these names all begin with the magnificent letter G. The letter G is also the 7th letter in the Latin Alphabet. G translates into mystical and esoteric number 7, both symbols of great power, genius and success. Maybe Ǥ is naturally auspicious. after all it was on your short list last year. I’m a believer!

The ideas here are very good. Even though I really like some of the suggestions. Adding another one:
