Announcing the Grin++ Wallet! (finally!)

After getting delayed several weeks (sorry!), the Grin++ wallet is finally here! It took a lot of time to get everything to work well together, and there’s still plenty more to do, but I invite you all to try out the first beta release (floonet only): https://github.com/GrinPlusPlus/GrinPlusPlus/releases/

Although the official Grin client is obviously much more stable and well-tested, Grin++ offers several advantages. Here are just a few:

  • Full Windows support
  • Simple to use electron UI
  • Multi-user support
  • Lightning fast refreshes & wallet restores
  • Full AES w/scrypt encryption to protect your coins and privacy
  • Passwords never stored in memory

Planned Enhancements:

  • HTTPS support
  • Magic wormhole
  • Multisig support
  • Better error handling
  • Mac Support
  • and much, much more

Keep in mind that this is a beta release, and should NOT be used on mainnet. There are a few known issues and limitations with it, which I’m actively working to fix, but feel free to report bugs as you come across them.

Now, the part I don’t enjoy:
I’ve worked tirelessly on Grin++ over the last 6 months trying to get everything working, and have been fortunate enough to not have the need to ask for anything in return. That is, sadly, no longer the case. I’ve decided to leave my job so I can spend some time focusing on Grin++, and no longer have any source of income (YOLO, as the kids say). Naturally, I will be burning through my savings, and my wife probably won’t put up with that for long :). If anyone is in a position where they could help out, and allow me to continue to focus on building Grin & Grin++, I would be eternally grateful.

I’m accepting donations in Bitcoin, or if you want to send me some Grin, just message me.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to help out with the project, I can’t wait to hear from you! Come find me on Gitter, or email me at davidburkett38@gmail.com. Thanks!

Cool, thanks for the link!

Here’s my grinbox address, if you use wallet713. Otherwise, you can send me a slate file. Thank you! gVvGhkjfh279RDrVpdNRBTuGT14e3kvNfBLrBEHiV2DLb3HGZ3v5

This is incredible work, it’s disheartening to see the responses here filled with personal attacks. The introduction of an alternative C++ client alone is a monumental task, and I thank David for taking the time to produce this, improving the Grin ecosystem. The wallet is much needed by those who don’t have access or skills with linux machines. I applaud this effort and look forward to it’s future development!

It’s a wonderful contribution, david, and I wholeheartedly hope you can transition into being a full-time Grin dev.

I saw this tweet by Twitter’s CEO and immediately thought about you: https://twitter.com/jack/status/1108487927078674432

Grin is one of the most worthwhile projects in crypto and you’re doing a great job. There’s a non-negligible chance that jack will help you go full-time

btw. I love the yellow/black-white theme… it´s actually my favourite color scheme, reminds me of wasp.
Really, cool. I know it comes from Grin logo itself, but yeah it´s just good extension of that color base.
