Suggestion: Make DEX - Gate.io is Over

We can come back to this integration as well:

a TL;DR would help here but I quickly scanned

the wGrin would be dull af ERC20 tokens and you’d have to burn or swap them for the real deal as part of some other (likely centralised) service. I don’t think many would convert and the tokens would be treated as trading instruments. this approach would obviate (obliviate!) the need for grin wallet integration into the DEX

as mentioned many projects operate this way, some before their mainnet releases, so there must exist a variety of methods for converting a wrapped coin token to the real coin

it might also be fun to create the swapping service as a tor hidden service

Problem is contract can be censored by their pools like with TornadoCash, it can lead to lock of Grin + decentralized bridge is needed. Very complex solution.

exactly every wallet is service, p2p atomic swaps can be done

Why should they censor?

OFAC compliance. ETH pools back in the PoW days, and still exchanges censor funds sent through tornado cash.

altho there are means of censoring transactions (as with Bitcoin) the question remains: why would ERC20 wGrin be censored, is the concern legit, and is it not fear and paranoia preventing us from doing so?

If they will see North Korea is using it, for example, TornadoCash was good example.

TornadoCash dev was pardoned by Trump. Smell the coffee.

The time is now; carpe diem. And this community deserves better answers for why such simple listings are not yet manifest.

i.e. Give me one good reason why wrapped Grin is not yet on Uniswap

@gig Perhaps one reason. I think to wrap grin you need provable burn right :fire:?
I do not think there is a way for grin to do provable burning of coins. Yet for Tari, they claim there is a way for provable burn. I did not yet check if their solution could work for Grin.

Tari? Yeah i saw the new listing. Don’t give a flying F about that now

I’m talking bout Grin.

While DEX’s might be shite and far less decentralized than they claim (see cross-chain swaps) they are a good deal better than KYC enabled CEX’s who get hacked as surely as milk goes bad

And yet all I hear is interest in CEX listings. Are we mad? Are we impregnated with bad actors? Or am I missing something?

Not necessarily. 1 wGRIN = 1 GRIN held in a treasury, ready to be claimed/swapped at a time of the token owner’s choosing (see Tether). Regardless, literally 1000’s of projects (including Bitcoin, see wBTC) operate in this way so why shouldn’t we? What is it that we fear? Show me.

Its not secure and can lead to coins loss. Atomic Swaps are more trustless way.

Are there any popular, user-friendly atomic swapping networks that are not slow and expensive?

If we want adoption we should be pragmatists, not idealists.

Really? So why are billions of dollars worth transacted daily? This is the fear I mentioned above. No good. But by all means prove your case @ardocrat - IMO this is nonsense

THORChain and also the new Bison wallet from decred are popular atomic swap protocols.

And why no WGrin? Who would hold the keys to the Grin stash? Can’t be done in a trustless manner.

@gig Perhaps if grin would have MultiSig supported, a treasury would be an acceptible solution, but we do not have it implemented yet. Atomic swap would also have my preference since it is more secure and decentralised. Idealy we would have both options ofcourse.

My best quote in a while

I know I’m right and the mood I’m in I’ll melt any face off just for the fecking lulz, savvy?

It was not Ignotus, but perhaps it was Albus who sent me down here to ask you damned philistines what the actual f*ck is going on? Hmm, your days are numbered CIA mofos (see Yale, class of '64)

Can the community show more support for this?

Seconding this - Haveno hosts an impressive volume despite being about a year old, and as a BISQ fork a Grin integration should be possible in theory. It’s by far the best option for private peer-to-peer exchange at the moment.

Another chain is like CEX, but even worse, in case of exchanges coins can be stolen, here can be locked at burned bridges possibly.
