Grin wallet help node ip

is grin wallet 1.2.8 the latest working wallet? does anyone have some grin node ip’s i can add to my wallet? its been a few days now and it wont connect to any peers, i uninstalled and reinstalled my wallet. i forget how but i kinda remember having to manually ad ips somehow if someone can help that would be much appreciated.

The latest wallet is the v5.4.0-alpha.1

If you don’t have your own node, there are some nodes that you can connect to:

https://grincoin.org
https://grinnode.live:3413

From Grin documentation: CLI Handbook - Grin Documentation

The wallet needs to talk to a running grin node in order to remain up-to-date and verify its contents. By default, it tries to contact a node at 127.0.0.1:3413. To change this, either modify the value in the grin_wallet.toml file, or alternatively, you can provide the -r (se r ver) switch to wallet commands.

grin-wallet -r "http://192.168.0.2:3413" info

The easiest solution would be to install Grim developed by @ardocrat

thank you martin. before i made this post i went on grin.mw and found that other wallet. it wont open on my machine though so i thought it was outdated because grin++ opens up, it just doesnt sync. ill try another machine or figure out why its not opening up. probably anti virus of some sort.

Nah grin++ has a well known issue of not being able to find peers, I think you have to manually put in some

well another update. things arent going great.

this all started because i use 2 miners to mine grin. to get paid out you leave your grin plus plus wallet open and it will send it automatically.

i got busy and totally forgot about my grin plus plus wallet(for about a year). when i tried to open my grin plus plus wallet it got stuck and wouldnt update. which led me here.

its kinda good my wallet didnt work because i was trying to send grin to TO about a week before it went offline lol.

thanks to this thread i got grim up and working…I havent tested sending any grin because i have no where to send it but leaving the wallet open with the node connected doesnt get a payout from 2miners. so i think i need to get grin plus plus to work. i thought it was working because it made it to 90+% step 2/4…but it just shows “waiting for peers” i left it on for a few days and then installed it on a physical machine incase it was having an issue with my VM…same issue there as well. gets almost done step 2 then stalls out then shows “waiting for peers”. node logs show something along the lines of "Failed to connect to 95.99.108.152: PerformOutboundHandshake: Shake message not received” on both machines.

im at the point where im not sure if i should keep asking for help or just ditch the miner on ebay or something. im not smart enough to figure this out on my own which makes me think maybe this coin is not for me. since TO is gone i have no where i can exchange the coins either so it feels like this is all a waste of time and energy.

I hear your frustration bro, first things first. There is a place you can send coins to exchange now called nonlogs.io , we all use it since tradeogre went down

Secondly, what operation system are you using? If it’s Linux I’d recommending using the grim wallet as that is pretty clean, and you should be able to receive payouts although I don’t use a pool you can always solo mine directly to your wallet with grim.

As for the node issue, and failing to sync. If you don’t like grim wallet id suggest using the cli wallet and node found on linked on the website, but even the cli node will fail during its first sync and will need to be closed and reopened or even better i recommend using my branch of the node wallet as i have fixed the sync issue. GitHub - syntaxjak/grin: Minimal implementation of the Mimblewimble protocol.

As for the grin ++ I have no experience with that software but many members in thr community may be able to help you with this @wiesche @Anynomous

Your difficult experience is a common and I hear many users have abandoned this coin because of the difficulties using the software. I’d urge you to not give up but your frustration is very understandable.

@chopper I was running Grin++ in the last days. I encountered similar issues and I am investigating together with @wiesche. The main peoblem is that Grin++ can end up in a state that it is seeing all peers as having the wrong block hight and starts banning them. For me closing and opening Grin++ solved it. Something gets reset when you start Grin++.

its beyond my skills right now but if i was smart id probably be able to sync the grin plus plus wallet off the node im running on grim right? it seems to me like that should be totally possible especially since both machines are on the same physical network too lol.

Hey man! Congratulations on getting it working! I’m absolutely stoked for you :+1:

This community has a bunch of really helpful dudes and we are doing our best to fix the bugs and make that user experience as smooth as possible.

As for syncing your grin ++ via your grim node, no, I definitely don’t think that would be very easy, one is written in rust language and one in c++, it may technically be possibly but it sounds pretty tricky to me.

If you have any further problems or questions or comments, don’t hesitate to reach out bro, this is a community project and everyone’s invited!
