Grin on Wikipedia

I wrote about the need for a Grin article on Wikipedia on Reddit. I got in contact with the famouir Grin developer Mr Tromp.Unfortunately Reddit is part of the Big Tech cartel, hence my reply to Tromp was censored.

In short my Reddit post was about, well, what I just stated: Grinj needs one or more articles on Wikipedia since Wikipedia is the primary source of information for a lot of people in today’s world. Tromp wrote that he has tried to post an article on the English Wikipedia and that it had been deleted.

My solution to this, which should be tried as soon as possible, is to post Grin articles in minor Wikipedia languages. For example Occitian has probably the lowest bar of entry for new crypto articles. Categoria:Moneda virtuala — Wikipèdia

If you read the various articles, you can see that there are no sources provided. Occitian Wikipedia also has one article about Novacoin that has no translation into any other language. Grin could easily qualify on the Occitan Wikipedia page, and that would be a great start towards an English article. There are also other languages with a low bar entry, for example Bulgarian.

How do you translate a brief text into Occitan? Do you have to be a language professor? No. You just have to visit Google Translate. If you cannot write a brief article about Grin, just use ChatGPT, and post “Write a very brief article about the cryptocurrency Grin.”

Here is the answer I got:

Grin is a cryptocurrency that prioritizes privacy, scalability, and simplicity. Launched in January 2019, it is based on the Mimblewimble protocol, which aims to offer enhanced privacy by obfuscating transaction details like amounts and addresses. Unlike many other cryptocurrencies, Grin has no set supply limit; new coins are generated at a consistent rate of one Grin per second, promoting a stable and fair distribution over time.

Grin’s lightweight design helps maintain a smaller blockchain size, making it easier to verify transactions and reducing storage requirements. The project is community-driven, with no pre-mine, ICO, or centralized control, aiming to uphold the ideals of decentralization and anonymity. While it has struggled with adoption compared to mainstream cryptocurrencies, Grin remains an option for those valuing privacy and minimalism in digital transactions.

Here is the translation into Occitan:

Now you just have to add the reference section and the category at the bottom of the article:

== Nòtas e referéncias ==
< references />
{{Monedas virtualas}}
[[Categoria:Moneda virtuala]]

Finally you post it here: https://oc.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grin

Just to be sure, try to provide some sources, choose the best ones you can find, and write them between < ref > < /ref > after each relevant sentence.

Why don’t I do this myself? ‘Sadly’ (actually I am very proud of it) I translated the Monero article into 50 new languages. Then some kind of ‘global steward’ decided to delete most of them because they were deemed as being ‘machine translated’, despite the fact that they were more of less perfect according to the people who speak those languages. The result was that my home computer IP address was banned for three months. However, if you only post one article, I think you will go under the radar. Also, try to upload the Grin logo on Wikicommons, but I think you need to register an acount to do that.

That is a fine initiative :+1: . Unfortunately Wikipedia is no very ‘nym’ friendly. My experience from the past with Wikipedia is unfortunately quite bad. They randomly accept some while not other entries that are essentially the same, creating selective bias and censure in the information shown on Wikipedia.
