Community hosted and most private Grin chat yet on SImpleX

A few collaborators and I have launched a new, community hosted, and privacy focused SimpleX chat server for Grin that has no accounts, protects your IP information, and uses a per-server profile.

You can read the whitepaper for SimpleX here:

The site is https://grinchat.mw.

Use the link below or scan the QR code to join after downloading the client which is on all platforms.

The server is working flawlessly so far and is active. There is another Grin chat in the directory but no one has used it.

I pasted the smp://O4SFdESc4kURMNYKc5uDS06p2oCyxIf8lpjtz1zco2g=@grinchat.mw

link where it says Search or paste SimpleX link and nothing happens.

When i hit paste link in the New chat window it reports Invalid link!

You’re not the first to have issues so I replaced the link with the one the app generates. Try this:

Doesn’t simplex have that quirk where the creator/owner of a group chat needs to be online in order for a new person to join the group chat?

That link requires an app to scan. Instead I installed SimpleX on my desktop. Can you provide a link I can paste in there?

I host one of the messaging servers myself, yes. If my power goes out or some other act of God or Goblin the message relay will be down. So far it’s had zero downtime after a few months.

You can develop chat software? That’s an impressive achievement.

No no, it’s a chat server you can host yourself which I do along with hosting grinminer.net.

I had someone help me find the right software to build that protects privacy at a level others don’t, and they donated the grinchat.mw domain so I didn’t do it alone.

You need to paste the link in to the search bar. Or you can use the directory bot to search for Grin and there are two of them, grinchat.mw is the one with Alice as the logo and is actually active.

They’re adding features as they go so unfortunately it’s not the most intuitive app when it comes to joining groups.

Is it possible to use a mobile device?

Works flawlessly on mobile device, on desktop its harder because you need to past a link. I converted @transatoshi Qr code to a link using an online qr code scanner, but it says the link transpired or there is a bug.

Unless your contact deleted the connection or this link was already used, it might be a bug - please report it.
To connect, please ask your contact to create another connection link and check that you have a stable network connection.

I updated the qr code to match the invite link, thanks for the report.
