@FunnyGrinMan

You can’t short GRIN on Bitforex. You can only buy it. I know this because I have an account there. I’ve tried and I can’t short GRIN there.

So I ask again, where can you short GRIN?

There are perpetual contract trading in Bitforex with the GRIN/USD pair for me. You have to hold GRIN to open a short position. Is it available in your account?

First you bought the top and now you want to short the bottom?

They even have BEAM. GRIN & BEAM are at 10x leverage.

Shorting means selling shares of something you DON’T OWN. If you have to OWN GRIN in order to short it, then it just means selling GRIN. Selling GRIN you already own is not the same as SHORTING GRIN.

But you can sell 10x more than you own, so it is leveraged.

But you can sell 10x more than you own, so it is leveraged.

There are several problems with this.

  1. Bitforex isn’t a reputable exchange. There aren’t many to be honest, but they are one of the worst IMO.

  2. Leveraged trading still implies you have to own the underlying coins. I don’t feel comfortable parking ANY coins on an exchange. I rather keep my coins in my wallet.

  3. Exchanges like Bitforex are well known for manipulative trading and wash trading. A common practice in most exchanges but especially bad for non-reputable ones.

  4. Leveraged trading still implies you have to have enough assets in your account to cover your leveraged positions. If for whatever reason, the price jumps even for a second, you get liquidated. Especially DANGEROUS if this is a non-reputable exchange … they can manipulate the price up for 1 second, liquidate you, and the move the price back down. It’s a well-known tactic.

For these 4 reasons, Bitforex is not an option if you want to short GRIN.

What doesn’t work for you? Any suggestions for how we can improve?

There is nothing about an “Official wallet” that suggests it will be any easier to use.

Niffler and Grin++ only Gui wallets- (ironbelly mobile thnx god) we have now and their Devs doing great job for average person non tech savy ,helping to expand the community.

grin core wallet improves so Niffler ad Grin++

Niffler: it feels uncomfortable to withdraw Grins to Niffler. The convenient way is to use Hedwig, however, it seems the Hedwig address is changing and the averaging user is not able to figure out how this change will affect their input to the withdraw behavior in the Exchange. It feels unsafe. And other ways are simply too hard to use.

Grin++: I never start it successfully. It always complains no node is available even I started the local node. Is it possible to start Grin++ without worrying about running local node?

Bitcoin accient wallet: I use it as it downloaded from the official website and no fear for losing any bitcoins when using it. It has a unique address and I can simply apply it anywhere I want. It feels safe as long as I control the unique address just like my bank account!

Summary: the biggest drawback of current implementation of Grin Wallet is that it lacks a unique address of my Grin wallet which can be use anywhere, especially in the Exchanges.

Grin++ uses a permanent address. It probably won’t start because Niffler leaves the node running in the background, which conflicts with the grin++ node. Kill the Grin process and try opening Grin++.

That’s exactly what I mean what is not user friendly. Does averaging user need to consider which fails to start a wallet? The wallet should start and solve this problem by itself but not relying to the user to KILL the Grin Process. How many averaging user except a developer can or be willing to kill a process? At least, Grin++ and Niffler can solve it by communication with each other, not the user! And it further supports that the drawback of not having an unique official wallet to use by averaing users.

Yes, it is user experience. And Grin++ fails to address the very first user experience problem which is it can work like a charm for users without knowing anything about the underlying structure of the wallet or the computer. Just like most Apple apps, they just work. That is the excel example of best user experience!

And where can I find the permanent address? In which wallet or the official command line tool? Can I provide it to any Exchange to withdraw my Grin there? If so, I would like to learn ASAP.

I don’t think you want a third party application killing and starting process… but, if you’re using Windows, I am pretty sure that your Antivirus will put this third party application in Quarantine.

Again…

If someone wants to say: “this app is not user friendly”, that person should run the app first, I guess…

I am very interested in Grin when I encountered it last April. I have mined Grin since then. And to be honest, I am an experienced developer working in developing scientific computing software. I am confident that my experience in using software should exceeds most averaging users. But the wallet thing continuously annyong me. I feel frustrated. No wonder Grin cannot attract massive averaging users. It fails doing so not due to its technology but its user experience. It makes me crazy why the developers of Grin not understanding such simple issue.
