We have just put out a github repo for accessing grin chain data at Grinnode-live / grin-block-archive .
Getting chain data via setting up a node with archive mode takes considerable time, so if you want to do some research, you can download all the data in json format immediately.
There is also a jupyter-notebook, demonstrating how to import data, calculate transaction count and predict hourly with a machine learning method.
