Let's talk about the elephant in the room

And regarding standarized TX - why can’t we just copy Beam’s solution? Seriously , apart from being too proud to copy it. This is normal thing with open source software that we inspire each other.

The claim is that there’s nothing special about the core website, repos, etc. So why can’t Grin++ or Niffler be the official GUI? Is it just the name “official” that everyone is looking for?

Just an idea.

The iPhone Jailbreak community is pretty popular at the moment. Currently to buy jailbreak tweaks you have to go through random developer portals and either give CC or Paypal info. CC is clearly risky and PayPal often blocks developer PayPal accounts. There is huge potential to have standardized crypto replace this. There is a ton you could do in this arena. Working with some of the main repos to accept grin. And then develop a solution attached with faceid or touchid to use grin. A grin wallet and blockchain could easily fit on most iPhones. So if we are looking for new users this would be a cyberpunk way to get them :money_mouth_face:

Good Idea @Macker. Grin has to be useful for darknet markets and decentralized exchanges.

Indeed, but GRIN as a popular payment method is a little difficult right now. We probably first need to have a standardized way to transfer grin that people like before hoping that external parties will confidently consider to propose the coin as a p2p payment method. Currently it seems a lot of people consider grin as one of the more difficult coin to use.

But it will change

total agreed.
I don not think an “official” wallet will solve this problem.

The thing that we could do inspired by the reddit story that you describe here with ETH is getting grin Atomic Swap ready and that the grin community starts promoting it to bitcoiner or eth people.

This will beat any washing method that they currently can imagine for their BTC, as Atomic Swap are completely trustless.

Bringing more people to grin is the best thing that can happen right now, bringing momentum and more community members and developers to grin.

I think people find it hard to understand that we are not finishing up the atomic swap implementation that Jasper has almost finished.

We have 2 core developers full time on grin, including Jasper, and one more soon with Antioch.
The amount of work to finish this up might really not be huge, and the positive outcomes of having this done can really be nice, and bring good reasons to start posting grin stuff on bitcoin or eth reddits

Good point on recognizing it as the way to swap for something private. I do think that if Core focused on this, it would be to provide an interface through CLI. Or maybe a whole new CLI wrapper around the existing grin-wallet or something similar. It most likely wouldn’t be a nice UI solution that regular crypto people could use but rather just an interface I imagine, which brings us to the same problem we have right now. External people need to build GUIs that use these services in the background.

Totally agree! I think that’s the healthy path. Maybe trying to bring more enthusiasts to the community can help? How? more networking, blog posting, youtube videos and so on. I’m a big fan of Lightning Network, not because the technical perspective but because it makes everything easy (and faster) to use.

PS: I also think 10k is too much  and maybe that money will need it later for other stuff like hiring a cryptographer or for doing some security audits.

Has something been done about this? Is Grin a usable currency now?

grin-wallet supports payment proofs now.

ICO /fundraising capability thru smart contract is what really made ethereum famous
