Contributions to the Grin Ecosystem and Maintaining

Hello Grin community,

I would personally really like to continue working on Grin with a contribution-based model that would roughly match a 0.5 FTE at $3000/month or a 1.0 FTE at $6000/month.

Over the past weeks and months, I have already contributed quite a bit to the Grin ecosystem, and there is still a lot more I would like to work on in the future.

Of course, I cannot do this completely full-time because I already have a regular job, but I would still like to contribute consistently and in a meaningful way alongside it.

I am also continuously learning and improving my Rust and blockchain development skills while contributing wherever I can provide value.

My personal idea would be a simple and transparent contribution-based approach:
During the month I work on Grin-related topics such as:

  • Reviews

  • Pull requests

  • Testing

  • Infrastructure improvements

  • Research

  • Bug fixing

and at the end of the month I provide a public summary of the completed work.

Compensation would not be automatic, but based on the actual work delivered and a transparent monthly summary of contributions.

Contributions in May 2026

During May 2026, I mainly worked on:

I currently also operate and maintain:

  • Multiple Grin and Grin++ test nodes

  • Docker-based runtime infrastructure

  • Gateway and sync testing environments

  • Mobile and WASM testing environments

  • DNS seeding infrastructure

  • The currently only active miner on the Grin testnet

  • Telegram Bots

  • Umbrel GrinNode

Additionally, I would appreciate if part of the hardware costs for Grin-related infrastructure and testing could be considered together with the contribution evaluation.

This includes approximately:

  • $250 for the Umbrel system

  • $100 for the Raspberry Pi 5

  • $150 for the miner from Marek

The miner is currently also used to operate the only active miner on the Grin testnet.

Recently a couple of issues have been resolved in grin and grin-wallet. However, many GitHub issues remain for both grin and grin-wallet. We need a small developer team to tackle these issues and review each-others work for development to work optimally. It would be great to have more developers who actively contribute and receive compensation and I would be happy to have @wiesche contribute on a systematic basis.

Based on what I have seen so far from @wiesche’s work on Grin Umbrel and his recent work on improving the stability and speed of syncing grin node, I think his contributions are valuable. His record speaks for itself and the amount asked for is very reasonable for a capable developer.
Compensating minor hardware costs is also fine if that hardware is needed for testing.

That is a yes from me :+1: :yellow_heart:

I really like this and we should make it a standard approach for anyone doing work.

This is also a great suggestion. A team that is able to support each other without outside management would be ideal if it can work.

Overall I support Wiesche’s proposal and hardware compensation. He and Ardocrat are valuable assets to the project.

“I’ve been following the project for a long time, and honestly, I wanted to see it grow. Grin has always paid for work actually done. All in all, I’m against this—and I’m not against Grin’s development itself, but rather against putting someone on a salary.”

Creating new PRs, reviewing others code and overall maintaining Grin core repos is very much important.

@wiesche proved himself as a capable developer by contributing to Grin already.

I support the request.

“这就像一个国家:没有领导者,它失去了方向,变得像一片松散的沙子。我希望社会可以考虑任命一位有远见、梦想驱动、技术熟练的决策者。我也真诚地希望Grin能很快服务于实体经济和公众。”

I support this. It is not glamorous but please make an early focus to clean up and resolve the many many open issues in the repo. It would be great and look much healthier to close old issues that are OBE.

More developers is a must for the project. I agree with @CircusDad , both grin node and grin wallet repository can do with some cleaning.

Has anyone used Stakr to add their grin bags?

Over the past two weeks this grant application has received support from the vast majority of the Grin community as well as from the community members in the Grin Governance Council (@bruges @Anynomous, @waynegeorge @renzokuken @david). Based on @wiesche preferences and ours we agreed to approve this grant application equivalent of 0.5 FTE work, to be paid each month after reviewing his work.

Congratulations @wiesche :tada: !
Normally I would say something along the line of, “get to work :flexed_biceps:”, but I know you are already working on making fixes and improvements , keep at it :rocket: .
