[WITHDRAWN] Development Proposal: Grin Cryptocurrency Wallet for iOS

@bruges I see, so I do the work, and then I may or may not be compensated based on the councils feelings? That’s cool man they won’t pay, They only fund themselves internally or have you not noticed. Imagine if I repaired someone toilet and had to request a possible donation for payment haha lala-land.

Is this what Wayne did? Or is this only how outsiders do it? I can’t seem to find his app published on the App Store… weird eh?

This is not true. And btw, council members are those who contributes to Grin.

Another important clarification is that this amount was being charged by a legal UK entity that has to pay corporation tax and expenses so not just straight into someone’s pocket.

Call me crazy but I don’t think that’s how donations are suppose to work lol sorry I had to hahaha it’s a joke relax lol

In general though, like just like ethically speaking, shouldn’t the group of people who decide who gets the donations kinda not be eligible to receive them themselves, it’s like a conflict of interest or whatever no? I understand that the members of the council are council members specifically because they contribute to grin, which is fine, but if that’s the case, then shouldn’t a different committee be formed to decide who gets donations, therefore avoiding any obvious conflicts of interests?

Maybe you have not noticed, but there has not been an abundance of people willing to sacrifice their time for this project.
As @bruges has shown, there is an abundance of examples of any of the existing councils donating to projects after completion. We can also add the examples of the work of @renzokuken where he received donations for his work on mimblewimble-py and the donation to @bruges for his work on https://grincoin.org/. And neither of them were council members when their donations were first discussed. So cut the crap with this council members funding council members nonsense.
Instead, use your energy productively and build that APP so we can make a donation do you.

I can imagine that adds complexity and costs. Also, the UK is just more expensive than most countries, so is the US. So paying a developer from these countries will always be a bit more expensive just because to make a living in these countries is expensive.

Maybe, once we have a larger community with more trusted people who can form a council, but for now it would be sad to exclude someone from receiving donations just because they’re also on the council.

By the way, several current council members have contributed significantly to Grin without ever requesting any funding or donations.

Tbh the UX was really bad. I hated that wallet creation flow with a passion

Spending time on a hobby isn’t a sacrifice… if it’s not enjoyable, you shouldn’t do it.

Btw, why not just put the app on the AppStore? I feel like I’m missing something here. It looks good on a CV to have a project like that to your name and you could even charge for it if you wanted (I’d pay for it). If you want to make it free, the community would definitely reimburse you on the Apple developer account costs.

Due to work and family commitments, I don’t currently have much time for hobbies. I would love to be in a position to build it to completion for free.

The app in its current form is not suitable for mainnet. I already attempted to publish it build as a testnet version without success in case you didn’t know. Publishing on the App Store also requires a business developer account which carries additional legal responsibilities.

I disagree that the app value is more to the creator in terms of resume. That may be true if the business was focused on providing crypto apps though. In terms of charging for it, I estimate that the revenue would not be significant due to number of users.

Anyone at this stage is free to complete the app, create a legal entity, and publish it. Perhaps @syntaxjak could do it for $100 being how easy it would be for him though I have seen no sign of him being able to do anything other than moan about and disrupt others actually trying to do things.

I could definitely clone your repo and have codex take a look at it, see if I can help you finish it up for mainnet. (Don’t worry, I won’t be asking for 40k to help out the community) (I’m working a skilled tradesman job for about 50 hours a week… but if I feel like it might be fun, Codex and I could take a look at it)

But it could be posted to Testflight at least, I dont think you will have problems with your business for this, its simple step that could attract more users/testers from the beginning.

That’s a good suggestion. I’ll look into it.
