I think it is not, energy is one of the most important parts of OPEX and of GPU value (being best) and you are totally right to bring it up. People often forget, but it always has to be considered.
On day one, some miners claimed it cost 5 euros of electric to mine 1 Grin.
Possibly, but it every single cent was a risk
Everyone is very happy and loved every min of the launch. It went to most profitable coin to mine instantly and will stay up there most likely because of the 10-n-1 uses of Grin.
Sorry but that is total bunk. The only person making money on that rig will be your company.
At an estimated 250w per gps on C29, your AlphaMiner rig loses a lot of money. Aside from the investment of $1,300, your miner will lose $720 a year based on $0.10/kwh and todayās economics. You are better off with a single1080ti or Radeon VIII which will be about 1/2 the cost of your rig and about 1/4 the power consumption.
I am a newbā¦what is the GRIN price breakeven for āProfessionalā minersā¦is it the $2.88 power cost from the above calc? is that in GRIN price terms?
Electric bill x 3 is a normal amount where miners sell off. The expected price from the example above would be $53.10/GRIN (17.70 power cost X3 = $53)
hi Brian,
please cut out all the spam in your post, i.e. all but the first paragraph.
Your estimates are somewhat off, but the general conclusion is correct, unfortunately. This is what is off: productivity of 9 x 570 4GB ranges between 6 and 9 h/s, yet you use 5 h/s. Although we have our own specialty BIOS, allowing us to pull 28 MH/s in ETH mining, so likely it would be closer to 9, if not higher, Iād use a conservative 7 h/s, but not 5. Second of all, our whole rig consumes 1300-1400W, it is 200W per gps at the most. Third of all, who mines at $0.10 if the market today is full of hungry great hosting companies ready to take you in at $0.06 - 0.07 all in? If you donāt know any, Iād be happy to get you in touch with a few. Also, when you calculate the cost of 1080ti, please include into it the whole setup, not just a card. Apples to apples.
But yes, overall you are correct, even after these adjustments at current exchange rate our rig is not profitable. It would become profitable once Grin will go up in price close to 100% vs. BTC.
Respectfully speaking, your rig performance estimates are way off. Show me how you can get 0.67-1.0 gps on each 4GB RX570.
Your rigs are PCIe 2.0 and do not support ROCm and Atomics causing a 20% drop in performance. And your 4GB cards will experience a significant fidelity loss in actual mining conditions; havenāt done the math but letās say 75% fidelity or a 33% loss in actual mining.
When you tweak your BIOS, it will use more power. What works for ETH doesnāt work for Grin/C29. Generally speaking, ETH is more memory bound and Grin is more engine bound.
Also keep in mind, your celeron processor is not up to snuff for a Grin rig, especially with more than 4 GPU. So Iād say my 5gps number is generous.
Please show us your actual mining pool logs instead of your marketing claims. That will ultimately prove your claims.
(and yes I will concede my 1080ti and Vega7 power number is low but they do make money).
Ive mocked him 3 times for that already he has yet to notice
Canāt do now, sorry. Everyone in R&D is off for the CNY for another couple of weeks, but once they get back will do our best.
any thoughts on ASIC will come out in 3-4 months? then all GPU will fade away?
Itās unlikely that any ASICS will show up until October timeframe. Obelisk announced their Grin1 ASIC miner with preliminary specs and October availability. Innovation announced their intent to support grin but nothing about performance and availability.
Obeliskās spec is 50-100x GPU performance and about 1/20 of the power consumption (of the equivalent # of GPU); if Innosilicon is anything like their A10 ETH Miner, it will barely be 4x faster than a GPU while being maybe half the power.
GPU will can be profitable to mine on C31 until sometime into Q4/19 and can mine C29 until end of 2020 but the rewards fall about 1% a week until they reach zero.
Ok, you will find that your claims are unachievable. We have already tried to retrofit our ETH rigs to mine Grin, tested a variety of 3rd party miners and made various driver/BIOS modifications. Those rigs you are flogging are useless to mine Grin unless you have access to free power.
itās very very possible some ASIC will come out in 4 months.
Itās something like a two year head start for the GPU fade into ASIC (with graphics card mods) then a third unknown type is coming. Grin will be the most diverse mineable coin out there.
I am currently running a P106-100 6G, itās running steadily OCd @ 2.22 gps mining C29.
Yes, i can confirm.
7x Asus GTX 1060 6GB with c29 and bminer is geting 19-20H, so aprox. 2,85 per card.
PL to 80, mem to 1900, cpu to +150. All running on HiveOS.
Have you tried the new Sapphire 16GB Radeon RX 570? Iām sure itās nowhere near as fast as the 2080 Ti, but itās way cheaper and Iām getting 0.42-0.43 hash rate on Cuckatoo31+ for a total system power of just 200W.
