For contracts CONTRACTS: can't make a transaction · Issue #729 · mimblewimble/grin-wallet · GitHub proofs by @tromp seem not implemented.
We need give money to Beam developers and they will do it.
Bump this thread.
Although I would have preferred to pay after delivery of work, I also understands @rehrar and the Cypherstack teams practical need for upfront payment.
I see the collaboration with Cypherstack and the integration into Stack Wallet as a gamble/taking some risk - it might work out well and lead to fruitful long term collaboration as well as benefit for all mimblewimble projects if it turns out well.
Regarding your answers to our questions:
Supporting tor, I think we should communicate well on this. Supporting tor is important for all privacy respecting projects out there.
Grin should:
- Start using Arti (rust implementation of tor),.
- Should update payment proofs to early payment proofs, perhaps with some work we can get it to work with the main branch until contracts are ready.
I expect a dedicated payment proof button (its just a button linked to an API call) in the transaction details for grin.
I also expect full support of slatepacks (copy text, QR code, save/send as file).
I can understand if other council members need more time to consider whether they want to support this Funding Request. I think we should not be in a hurry, probably a few months waiting would favor the costs to our funds in terms of BTC
.
In short, for 20k I am willing to take the risk of supporting this Funding Request
.
This is first thing we can integrate at January to get rid of external Tor dependency. Implementation tested well at Grim wallet: grim/src/tor/tor.rs at master · GetGrin/grim · GitHub
Current limitations: we can not use Arti behind proxy to launch .onion services and bridges are working only at Desktop, since Arti uses external binary like obfs4, snowflake and webtunnel.
This will need contracts, but they are not safe as @oryhp mentioned, so can be used with risk, Stack can integrate default payment proofs for now, they are at grin-wallet already: CLI Handbook - Grin Documentation
why should you hurry ? Btc price dropped from 120k to 80k.
Grin Bitcoin fund lost 2.500.000 usd, your inaction cost Grin. A wallet dev just for 20k.
Is this governance or undermining adoption ?
Warning, Trolling like on Telegram will result in a ban @Ramy .
Yes, it dropped to 80k, might even go lower. My expectation is that in the coming 1/2 year price will go up again. So there is no hurry, IMO.
why don’t you think another way that btc will be 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000 USD later
?
I agree Remy, they also had an offer for unstopped wallet integration and they turned that down as well - we would have had entire mobile wallet library infrastructure built from the ground up for grin and they said no
. I see Unstoppable wallets post on X all the time; they are extremely pro privacy coins. It was a major mistake to turn down their offer, we lost that much in btc just by it dropping in price so technically all that adoption would have been basically free.
@Anynomous how is he trolling? Let’s not threaten people with censorship just because we don’t like their opinion!
if some also personally holding Bitcoin, we can’t let their Btc interests, stop prospering Grin.
Then this becomes a textbook case of incentive misalignment i say in open-source decentralzed project.
Many “altcoin” devs are BTC maximalists at heart — they build alts for experimentation, not to dethrone BTC.
I’d like to share my thoughts on the Stack Wallet integration. I’ve seen that there are community members feeling frustrated at the lack of council action regarding it. It feels like deja vu again. More holding back due to bureaucracy. I totally understand that feeling as I know that there have been many missed opportunities in the past due to bickering and disorganisation. At this point though, I’d like to mention the Beam project. If we wanted an example of a Mimblewimble crypto implementing features by the truck load, we have one there. Their iOS wallet is top notch. What is also apparent though is that those features alone haven’t been enough to raise the project from the shadows of the crypto space. I don’t believe that Grin’s resurgence will come from shiny new apps alone. I believe that it will come from it’s ability to tell it’s story, share it’s vision and create an environment that is truthful, fair and welcoming to anyone wishing to share those values. As I said though, these are just my thoughts and that’s why we have open channels for all to discuss. If Grin gets integrated into Stack wallet, I will install it and try it out. I can’t see a use case for me as I don’t use my mobile to store crypto but it could be a good way to onboard new users via gifting. I’d love to see more experimentation with P2P transaction improvements as that’s where I see a crypto like Grin’s next big opportunity lying.
Every single halving cycle people say “this time is different!” No, it is not. This time is exactly the same as the previous times. It’ll be another 3 years before it’s up again. It’s going to 30k exactly as it is expected to.
Nevertheless, I support the stack wallet integration. If they make a wallet better than anything else made by the community, I support the healthy competition!
Apple is very closed system and requires LLC. What requires trust and publicity, well we can make installer from the MacOS, but it will not increase adoption, but will rather teach people how to use technology. In the world of capitalism Grin requires contribution from all kinds of people, copy pasting what was done for EPIC (Grin fork) is not 20k, trust me ![]()
Grin not pays for listings, it pays CONTRIBUTORS. This is idea of Grin fund.
