For those of you with a few - what’s your failure rate? How reliable are these devices?

if it’s about the power adapter failure, it could be 20%. If it’s about the board, i could say it’s immortal.

currently sold out at iPollo. But yeah they are pretty reliable, never had problems so far with any of my devices.

How do you replace a psu if it breaks?

Buy a Mean Well LRS-350-12 which can power 2 miners. If you’re not well equipped to build one I offer it a service with 45+ built so far and they are all happily humming along now.

Here is how they look (with an RGB lamp attached):

At the moment, yield is 24.5 ツ / mini / day.

I have 3x mini offline thanks to ded power supplies (the fanless brick kind). Can’t make a trip to that location until next weekend to replace. And 3x mini in transit that I recently purchased. In the market for another 2 if anyone is selling.

 ![grin_contest_entry_neo-geo](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex036/uploads/grin/original/2X/6/6123992cf768a8387c1c2ced97c42203519412e0.jpeg)

I’d say failure rate for fanless brick PSU = 100%, given enough time (days to years), which is why I’m converting over to [industrial PSU w/ fan](https://forum.grin.mw/t/stop-buying-power-bricks-now-offering-a-service-to-build-mean-well-industrial-psus-for-your-g1-minis/11477/2) for longevity (closer to immortal, but you can inadvertently kill by not being mindful of the voltage switch). For 4x internal fans of the mini, they too will all fail given enough time, [user replaceable](https://www.neostore.com/iPollo-G1-mini-Grin-MWC-ASIC-OEM-replacement-fan-p/1990.htm). Control board, rare, but those fail and are DYI repairable through replacement too, I keep a few on hand just in case. Board with mining chip never seems to fail yet (only one DoA from my XP that smoked at initial launch deployment, was replaced under RMA through iPollo (purchased by ツ payment to iPollo), and that could have just been the control board that fried).

Yeah, sidebar. I think the breakeven value for the g1 mini on the grin website is broken - 12 cents sounds high to me

That is quite a nice yield actually. If my G1 mini’s were not broken, I would switch them on again.

Reliability is related to the use environment, my machine is on the first floor, the weather in southern China is humid, and the wet weather makes many machines break

The only thing unreliable about them is the PSU. I build Mean Well industrial PSUs for my miners and they’re rock solid. I use an RSP-500-12 for 4 miners and have 2 more on an LRS-350-12.

I know a lot of G1 minis are coming online this week, and some of you may need new power supplies. I have one brand new Mean Well LRS-350-12 for sale which will power 2 miners for $65 shipped anywhere in the USA. Made w/ 14awg pure copper cabling and Molex heat shrink crimp terminals, they run on both 115V/230V with the flip of a switch.

I can also do custom jobs for those who need more PSUs.

Thank you! I take pride in my handiwork, I also have lots of practice after building 50 of them for @Neo-Geo, he was going through cheap power bricks at an unsustainable rate before switching over.

These industrial PSUs by [transatoshi](https://forum.grin.mw/u/transatoshi) w/ internal fan that run at 50% capacity are definitely optimal for durability compared to the doomed to fail OEM fanless PSU that runs close to capacity.

For [compatible fan replacement](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D8S8PH3H?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1) for the [MEAN WELL LRS-350-12](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WHJF1Q8?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1). And if you blow up a LRS-350-12 you can replace relatively cheap and reuse the cables. I blew one up by leaving the red switch set to 120V when powering by 220V: popping noise + smoke.
